The Program Director Smart Sénégal Mr. Cheikh Bakhoum and members of the Safe City project team reported on the progress of the project to the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Aly Ngouille Ndiaye. It was during a meeting this Monday March 02, 2020 at Washington Square, headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior.

Major component of the program Smart Sénégal, the Safe City project has been executed since 2019 by the State IT Agency with active involvement of the Defense and Security Forces. It essentially aims to improve public security by setting up an intelligent video surveillance network (IVS) in Dakar, Thies, Saly, Touba, Saint-Louis and Kaolack.

During the meeting, the Director General of ADIE presented the various achievements and prospects for the completion of the project. Mr. Cheikh Bakhoum communicated to the Minister of the Interior the figures concerning the cameras already installed. These are 473 cameras out of the 500 planned. These cameras are equipped with a solar system capable of lasting for a period of at least 10 years. In addition, software is provided for analyzing the collected data. The cameras are also interoperable with the Ministry of the Interior system.

The Defense and Security Forces are also equipped with smart mobile phones with eLTE technology to facilitate their interventions, with communication on a secure network. Indeed, they will be able to film incidents, exchange images and videos in the field and do geolocation in real time.

For coordination of operations on the ground, the project will set up four regional command centers and a national command center. Moreover, the Ministry of the Interior has decided to set up an interministerial committee composed of the Police, the Gendarmerie, the Samu, the Firefighters among others, in order to make the National Command Center operational.

Mr. Aly Ngouille Ndiaye generally appreciated the work and achievements already carried out.
