Under a cloudy sky, the program delegation Smart Sénégal who was visiting the different construction sites in Thies on July 23, 2020, went to the Promenade des Thiessois (formerly Place de France). On this site, several wifi access points are already installed to provide a very good connection to the population.
The public places affected by the public Wifi project in Thies are among others: the Amadou Sakhir Ndieguéne Regional Hospital, the Lycée Malick Sy, the square in front of the Lycée Malick Sy, Avenue Léopold Sedar Senghor, the Road Transport Department, or the Thiessois promenade. This coverage would allow thousands of young people in particular and residents of the rail city in general to be able to connect, create links but above all participate in the employability effort.
The Program Director Smart Sénégal Mr. Cheikh Bakhoum recalled the objective of the project which is to make our cities smart, but also to fight against the digital divide. Addressing the Mayor of Thies, Mr. Talla Sylla, Mr. Cheikh Bakhoum said: “Today, the Internet is a major development issue. Just like water and electricity, the internet must be accessible to everyone. Thiès is a pilot city where almost all public places have been chosen for the implementation of the Smart WIFI project. We are currently in the finalization phase. The poles have already been installed and will be integrated into the administrative intranet. As soon as this integration is finalized, in the coming weeks we will be able to launch public WiFi in Thies so that people can best benefit from this service offered by the State. »
The Director General of the program Smart Sénégal is counting on the Mayor of Thies to inform the populations so that they can best benefit from this service offered to them by the State of Senegal, like large modern cities.
