Senegal, as part of the program Smart Sénégal, is currently rolling out the Submarine Cable project. The objective is to land a submarine cable in Senegal that will provide access to international bandwidth and help make high-speed Internet service accessible and affordable for the Administration and citizens. On April 29, Huawei Marine Networks (HMN) announced the launch of the Senegal Horn of Africa Regional Express (SHARE) cable. The system, as the first high-capacity direct link between the African continent and the islands off Cape Verde, is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2021.
The SHARE system is approximately 720 km long and has a design capacity of 16 Tbit/s, using HMN’s mature and reliable submarine communications equipment and solution, which connects to Dakar, Senegal and Praia, Cape Verde. Building on Cape Verde’s existing international cable resources to Europe, South America and other regions, the delivery of the system will introduce new international bandwidth routes to the African continent over the 25-year lifecycle, significantly improving the total bandwidth of Senegal’s international exports and even the surrounding regions of West Africa.
The SHARE system will promote the development of Senegal's ICT Hub position in West Africa and accelerate the development of the digital economy and the innovative economy in the region.
HMN promises to provide cutting-edge technology and high-quality delivery services to facilitate the success of the ICT Hub strategy in Senegal.
