Towards the Digitalization of the Craft and Informal Sectors
In short:

The Ministry of Crafts and Transformation of the Informal Sector (MATSI) and Senegal Numerique SA signed a partnership agreement on December 29, 2023 aimed at digitalizing the sector and refining data control, particularly in the informal sector.

During the ceremony, it was first a question of reviewing the numerous steps taken in the past by the two entities with a view to establishing this strategic partnership, which has become a reality today. The craft sector needs it since it is a sector which accounts for nearly 60% of the country's economy, particularly thanks to players in the informal sector. By joining forces with Senegal Numerique in the digitalization of artisanal products, but especially for the control of data in the field, MATSI will have an important lever of support, help and guidance based on digital technology.

The Minister of Crafts and Transformation of the Informal Sector, Biram Faye, did not hide his satisfaction in these terms: “I would first like to salute the work that was carried out by our two teams but especially by my predecessor Doctor Papa Amadou Ndiaye, also congratulate the Managing Director of Senegal Numerique SA for the remarkable work he is doing with his teams, including 6000 km of optical fiber and 46 Senegal Service Spaces present in all departments of the country . These spaces can serve us in the execution of our mission in the field of crafts and the transformation of the informal sector. A very strategic sector which concerns 78% of the active population with a contribution of 6.000 billion to the national economy and a participation of 42% in the gross domestic product.

“Since we have been here, we have been working on the implementation of a certain number of priorities such as the development of the chambers of trades present in the regions, the expansion of their missions and the modernization of remarkable work that they are currently doing, the development of exports with the labeling of products", he added before inviting the two teams to meet quickly to start the collaboration which is a request from the Head of the State, President Macky Sall, national and international partners to access funding and training.

“This particularly strategic place that the Head of State grants to this sector is all the more justified as in a country where one young person in three does not have a job and two in three do not have technical qualifications, "craftsmanship is seen as the solution to the problem of unemployment", added Cheikh Bakhoum, Director General of Senegal Numerique who also thanked the various officials of this ministry for their commitment and their availability.
