This activity follows the agreement which was signed on April 19, 2023 between the General Director of Senegal Numerique SA and the President of the National Committee for the Promotion of E-Sport (CONAPES), Elhadji Mansour Jacques Sagna, better known as artist name of Lord Aladjiman.
The objective of this partnership is to promote the development of video games in Senegal and to make it a lever for job creation for the community of "gamers" composed mainly of young people.
The signing of this agreement demonstrates Senegal Numerique SA's commitment to supporting the growth of the e-sport industry in Senegal by providing technical assistance to the National Committee for the Promotion of E-Sport. “These include the organization of e-sport tournaments, the training of young talents and the promotion of e-sport among businesses; all this on a national scale thanks to the infrastructures of Senegal digital SA, in particular optical fiber, the Senegal Services spaces and the Datacenter,” declared Aladjiman who is also the president of the Senegalese Federation of Electronic Games and Immersive Sports affiliated to the ministry Senegalese Sports.
This partnership is part of the dynamic initiated by SENUM SA through its innovation laboratory to strengthen the technological ecosystem but also with the objectives of the digital economy acceleration project signed recently between the Government of Senegal and the World Bank, backed by the vision of the PSE in phase 2 of the PAP2A (Adjusted and Accelerated Priority Action Plan) through the “Senegal Digital 2025” Strategy (SN 2025).
It is therefore within the framework of this partnership that the SENUM E-SPORT COMPETITION (SECO) will be launched as well as a vast training and mentoring program around professions linked to the practice of electronic games, Immersive Sports, Cyber Sports, Tech Sport, Phygital Sport including innovative technologies including AI, AR/VR, drones and exoskeletons... in Senegal.
It was in 2020 that the e-sports industry, which was experiencing rapid growth on a global scale, passed the historic milestone of one billion dollars in revenue generated for the first time. Revenues include several sources including broadcast rights, sponsorship, ticket and franchise rights sales, merchandising and merchandise among others. Regarding the number of followers, e-sport has a constantly expanding community which is estimated at nearly 600 million gamers.
