This Thursday, October 12, 2023 marks an important milestone in the field of innovation and technology in Senegal. Senegal Numerique, a national company responsible for driving digital development policy and contributing significantly to the digital transformation of our nation, has signed an important framework agreement with the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD).

This agreement paves the way for close collaboration between the two institutions with the aim of stimulating innovation, research and digital transformation.

The signing ceremony, which was held at the Rectorate of Cheikh Anta Diop University, brought together representatives of Senegal Numerique led by the Director General Cheikh BAKHOUM, and the teams of the Rectorate of Cheikh Anta Diop University under the leadership of the Rector, Professor Ahmadou Aly MBAYE. Speeches delivered during the ceremony highlighted the importance of this collaboration for capacity building.

Mr. Cheikh BAKHOUM, Managing Director of Senegal Numerique, expressed his enthusiasm about this collaboration: “Digital technology is an essential driver of economic growth and social transformation. By joining forces with UCAD, we have the opportunity to train the next generation of technology leaders, support cutting-edge research and create a vibrant innovation ecosystem.”

Cheikh Anta Diop University is one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in Senegal and West Africa. It plays a central role in the training of local talents and in academic research. This agreement will allow UCAD students and researchers to work in close collaboration with Senegal Numerique experts on projects related to technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and other related fields. This is the case with the technical management of the “.sn” register, in particular the delegation of the second level extension “gouv.sn” as well as the offer to register .sn domain names in the Spaces. Senegal Services. 

The agreement also provides for joint training programs, expert exchanges, innovation competitions, and collaborative research projects. The ultimate objective is to encourage the creation of local technology companies, promote digital entrepreneurship and contribute to the growtheconomic ance of Senegal.

Professor Ahmadou Aly MBAYE, Rector of UCAD, declared: “This collaboration with Senegal Numerique is a major step for our university. It strengthens our mission to train competent and committed students in the field of technology, while contributing actively training the leaders of tomorrow but above all keeping up to date with the dazzling advances in technology."

The signing of this agreement between Senegal Numerique and Cheikh Anta Diop University is a concrete example of Senegal's commitment to innovation and technology to achieve its development objectives. This initiative promises to further strengthen Senegal's position as a technology hub in West Africa, while providing exceptional opportunities for young Senegalese students.
