Senegal Numerique SA and the National Backup Commission of the Gambian Ministry of Communication signed a framework collaboration agreement this Wednesday, August 3, 2022 in Banjul. A ceremony was chaired on this occasion by the Gambian Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Ousmane Ba, in the presence of the Senegalese Ambassador to the Gambia, Bassirou Sene, and a Senegalese delegation led by the Managing Director of Senegal Numérique SA, Cheikh Bakhoum.
A Gambian delegation stayed in Senegal in April 2022. As part of this work mission, visits and presentations of the infrastructural heritage of Senegal digital SA were made to the great satisfaction of the hosts of the company, the IT arm of the State of Senegal. It was therefore following these exchanges that the decision was taken to sign, between the two countries, a Framework Collaboration Agreement in the digital field; convinced of the critical role that this sector plays in cultural, economic and social development.
Welcoming the signing of this contract, the CEO of Senegal Numérique listed the possible areas of collaboration between the two structures: “the possible areas of cooperation in the digital field are numerous and I express the hope that our respective institutions will quickly appropriate the opportunities offered by the signing of this Collaboration Agreement to implement concrete cooperation projects, through, in particular, the Connection to the Branching Unit (BU) for the submarine cable, the Connection to the terrestrial optical fiber between the 2 country (crossings of the Gambia by fiber), the collaboration between our two structures SENUM SA and Gambian ICT Agency on digitalization, on the SENIX exchange point and the Datacenter.
The ceremony was also the occasion for the Senegalese delegation to recall the links, relations of friendship, fraternity and cooperation between two countries united by history and geography. “And more than history and geography, we also share the same national languages, the same cultural diversity, the same economic interests; in summary, Senegal and the Gambia constitute a single PEOPLE divided between two countries,” concluded Cheikh Bakhoum for whom this agreement will deepen relations between Senegal and the Gambia.
